Reports from multiple quarters indicate Apple is geared to launch an entirely new model this year. This device, focused on aesthetics, is widely referred to as the iPhone 17 Air, and a new leak has now outed some information on how much it could cost.
As revealed by Korean outlet Sisajournal, Apple is likely to price the iPhone 17 Air consistently with its previous "Plus" models. Seeing as the iPhone 16 Plus launched last year with a starting price tag of $899, the iPhone 17 Air can be expected to be priced similarly.
According to the source report, development of the iPhone 17 Air stems from an attempt to tackle failing sales of recent iPhone "Plus" models, with the new device intended to completely replace the iPhone 17 Plus in Apple's lineup for the year. For some perspective, iPhone 15 series sales data from Omdia saw the iPhone 15 Plus sell just 3.7 million units. Comparatively, the iPhone 15 Pro Max sold 21.8 million units, the iPhone 15 Pro 16.9 million units, and the vanilla iPhone 15 17.8 million units.
In any case, Apple will be hoping the iPhone 17 Air manages to deliver sales numbers on par with the other three iPhone models. Supposedly, a thickness of 6.25mm is targeted, 1.5mm thinner than Apple's current thinnest model, the standard iPhone 16. To be exact, that would make it the thinnest iPhone ever, even thinner than the 6.9mm iPhone 6.
