Apple analysts provide new insights into OLED display behind rumoured Apple iPhone 17 Air
Apple has only just delivered the iPhone 16 series, which it offers as the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max (curr. $1,199.99 on Amazon). However, attention has already turned to the prospect of what Apple has in store for next year. On the one hand, new information about the display that will underpin the next iPhone SE has recently emerged online, details of which we have covered separately.
On the other hand, DigiTimes has provided new insights into the possibility of Apple releasing a so-called 'iPhone 17 air'. For context, rumours about an 'air' branded iPhone 17 release first surfaced over the summer. According to DigiTimes, Apple intends to source thinner OLED display panels from Novatek, which has led to more speculation about the iPhone 17 air being in development.
Specifically, the website reports that Novatek will supply Apple with Touch and Display Driver Integration (TDDI) OLED panels, which are set to enter mass production in Q2 2025. If that is the case, then this could align with a likely September 2025 release for the iPhone 17 series. With that being said, it remains to be seen whether these TDDI OLED panels would be used across the entire iPhone 17 lineup or just the iPhone 17 air.
