The tenth-generation Apple Watch is just as difficult to repair as the first-generation Apple Watch. An iFixit teardown video reveals just how little has changed in Apple's smartwatch in a decade and which repairs are still near impossible.

The Apple Watch Series 10 has a slightly larger and thinner case than the Series 9. However, changes to the design and features are minimal, and the build of the smartwatch is also practically identical to its predecessor.

To get inside the smartwatch, the display has to be removed from the case. The screen is held in place with a large amount of glue. Once the screen has been detached, however, it cannot be replaced - the display cable is positioned in such a way that the smartwatch has to be almost completely disassembled in order to replace the screen.

At least the battery and the Taptic Engine can be replaced without any major difficulties once the case has been opened. The mainboard, including the processor, RAM and storage, can only be replaced as a whole, just like the glass back and all of the smartwatch's sensors. Almost amusing is the fact that there are hardly any differences between this teardown of the Apple Watch Series 10 and the teardown of the first-generation Apple Watch: even after a decade, Apple has only made minimal changes to the build of the smartwatch.

iFixit gives the Apple Watch Series 10 a repair rating of 3 out of 10 possible points - design adjustments for easier repairs are long overdue. Apple itself only offers a battery replacement for $99. For all other damage, Apple offers a complete replacement, which, depending on the model, costs between $299 and $399.
