Apple is reportedly not considering joining the smart ring train anytime soon despite what earlier rumors have said. Its lineup of smartwatches are enough for now, and iPhone users who want a smart ring actually have options.

The smart ring space has had some new entries this year such as the Amazfit Helio Ring and the Samsung Galaxy Ring (curr. $399.99 on Amazon). However, there are some who have decided not to jump on the train until Apple announces its own smart ring. Unfortunately for this group of people, their wait might be futile as a new report says Apple has no plans for a smart ring.

The info comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, and according to him, Apple isn't developing a smart ring neither are there plans to develop one. This might come as a surprise considering there have been rumors and even patents of an Apple smart ring. However, when given a deeper thought, the decision to not make a smart ring is a smart one.

Apple already has a strong hold of the wearable market with its smartwatches, and launching a smart ring would be detrimental to the sale of the Apple Watch. Also, the Apple Watch has a screen which makes for an interactive device compared to a smart ring.

In addition, the Apple Watch has got tons of non-health features such as being able to make calls, send/receive messages, play audio synced to the watch, record audio, and serve as a translator. In a nutshell, the Apple Watch is packed with enough features to serve as an alternative to a phone, especially for kids who don't have their own phone.

With Apple not joining the smart ring race, iPhone users can still pick up a smart ring. Both the Oura Ring and the Amazfit Helio Ring (available on Amazon.de for 177) are compatible with iPhones.
