Rumor | Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim and Apple iPhone 17 Air may not be as slim as expected
It's an open secret that both Samsung and rivals Apple plan to release new design-focused, slim devices next year. The Galaxy S25 Slim and alleged iPhone 17 Air are on the cards, but a new report claims they may not be quite as slim as fans would expect.
As shared by leaker Jukanlosreve, both Apple and Samsung are struggling with getting their respective "slim" phones as slim as wanted. For Samsung, it's claimed the Galaxy S25 Slim will be available in limited quantities only, with Samsung also sacrificing thickness in favor of delivering a competitive battery. In addition, it seems the Korean company will not adopt silicon-carbon battery technology for the S25 series, effectively giving up the density advantages of the chemistry as seen on phones like the Honor Magic 6 Pro and Vivo X200 lineup.
For Apple, the source claims plans for a new battery chemistry have been ditched for technical reasons. As a result, the iPhone 17 Air—or whatever it's eventually branded as—will ship with typical lithium-ion batteries, effectively making sure the phone sports a thickness of over 6 mm.
While a thickness in the region of 6mm represents a decent jump from the slimmest iPhone on the market—the 7.8 mm-thick iPhone 16—one must question if that's slim enough to be truly considered a "slim" phone. After all, Gionee already launched the 5.2 mm-thick Elife S5.1 back in 2014. That phone featured a laughably small 2050 mAh battery then, though.
