Xiaomi 15 Ultra rumoured to launch with dual telephoto cameras
Xiaomi has now released the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro in China. However, the company is not expected to offer the pair outside its home market just yet. Based on recent rumours, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra could remain the company's premier device until spring 2025, too.
Nonetheless, leakers like Digital Chat Station (DCS) continue to reveal elements about a successor. For example, they outlined some of the upgrades aimed at improving primary and periscope telephoto image quality to help distinguish the Xiaomi 15 Ultra from the older Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Now, Digital Chat Station has returned to provide insights into the former's secondary 'medium' telephoto camera.
Reportedly, Xiaomi has opted for the Sony IMX858, which also underpins the equivalent camera inside the Xiaomi 14 Ultra (curr. $1,085 on Amazon). Thus, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra would have a 50 MP and 1/2.51-inch sensor at its disposal in this regard. With that being said, Digital Chat Station asserts that while Xiaomi will retain an f/1.8 aperture, it will move from a 3.2x magnification and 75 mm equivalent focal length to 3x and 70 mm, respectively. In other words, it remains to be seen how the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will improve upon its predecessor in this regard.
