A number of OEMs have taken to releasing a version of their latest flagship Android smartphone with series-exclusive, often literally 'Ultra'-tier camera upgrades. Honor is now tipped to be the first among those companies to launch its contender in this ring - although it might be called something else in its case. The Magic7's "Ultimate" form is thought to rock cutting-edge variable aperture technology alongside the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC and a tandem OLED display.

Honor's next top-end smartphone camera array is thought to be found in the Magic7 Ultimate and/or Magic7 RSR, at least 1 of which is now touted to succeed their tandem OLED forebears by December 2024.

Other potentially class-leading devices from OEMs such as Samsung are thought to wait until January to make an appearance, while other Ultras such as those from the Hasselblad-branded OPPO Find X8 and Zeiss-enhanced Vivo X200 lines might come in by March to April 2025.

That leaves stragglers such as the Xiaomi 15 Ultra (or Huawei Mate 70 Ultimate Design, perhaps) to debut at around May 2025, according to the prolific leaker Digital Chat Station.

Should that be the case, those cutting-edge camera flagships might find a rival with the same variable aperture lens type allegedly destined for future iPhones way ahead of them.

The Magic7 Ultimate/RSR is also thought to have one of the most powerful periscope zoom lenses on the Android smartphone market and a new flat display to augment the same new 8 Elite chipset as the Magic7 and 7 Pro.
