Honor Magic6 Pro shines in detailed camera analysis and takes DxOMark camera leaderboard top shot
Yesterday, Honor unveiled yet more flagship smartphones in the Magic6 Ultimate and the Magic6 RSR Porsche Design. The release of the pair coincided with DxOMark's publication of its detailed camera analysis for the Magic6 Pro, which debuted globally last month. Like its predecessor, the Magic6 Pro now leads DxOMark's smartphone camera leaderboard.
While other smartphones will likely surpass the Magic6 Pro later this year, its score of 158 points is good enough to surpass the Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus and Oppo Find X7 Ultra. For reference, Honor equips the Magic6 Pro with the following rear-facing cameras:
- 50 MP primary: 24 mm equivalent focal length, f/1.4 - f/2.0 variable aperture, 1/1.3-inch optical format, OIS, laser autofocus
- 50 MP ultra-wide-angle: 13 mm equivalent focal length, f/2.0 fixed aperture, 1/2.88-inch optical format)
- 180 MP telephoto camera (68 mm equivalent focal length, f/2.6 fixed aperture, 1/1.4-inch optical format, OIS)
In DxOMark's view, the Magic6 Pro excels in most areas. However, the website criticises the smartphone for its occasional unnatural reproduction of image details, as well as the sharpness fluctuations that occur when recording videos. Additionally, its tests revealed that portrait mode shots taken suffer from visible motion blur. By contrast, the Magic6 Pro automatically focuses quickly and precisely, while its variable aperture creates a stronger depth of field effect than many of its peers.
DxOMark notes that the telephoto camera cannot outperform its competitors at long focal lengths, despite having an unusually high resolution. Instead, the 1/1.4-inch sensor is best used at up to approximately 150 mm before detail levels drop off. Please see DxOMark's camera analysis for more details.
