Honor Magic6 RSR debuts as brand's most expensive smartphone to date
At a launch price of 9,999 yuan ($1,389), the Magic6 RSR very nearly makes the 12GB/512GB Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra look like a bargain on Amazon.com right now. Then again, the new Honor flagship smartphone has twice the RAM and storage, and much more besides.
The device packs the latest and potentially greatest triple rear camera system from Honor, which includes the H9800, a custom-tuned version of OmniVision's latest OV50K sensor, placed alongside a “2.5X-100X” 180MP periscope zoom lens.
Those top-end shooters are joined by a 6.8-inch 1.5K display with the latest 8T LTPO technology. The new Honor Magic6 Ultimate Edition gas the same display - except for the cutting-edge Dual-Layer Tandem processing technology rated to extend an OLED screen’s life by a potentially significant margin.
It is exclusive to the top-end RSR version, as is the distinctive rear panel with hexagonal camera accent finished in the Frozen Berry or Agate Gray colorways donated by Honor’s new Limited Edition partner Porsche Design.
Then again, the Ultimate Edition also stands out with a novel, square camera hump with sweeping ridges that extend along its black or purple rear panels.
Both smartphones also pack the same OnePlus 12R-beating 5,600mAh battery which can charge nearly as quickly wirelessly as it can wired, at rates of 66W and 80W respectively.
The Ultimate Edition is also the relatively cheap option, starting at 6,999 yuan (~$972) with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The possibility of international availability for the Magic6 in either Ultimate or RSR form remains unknown at this time.
