Updated | OnePlus 12R makes international debut with the largest battery in OnePlus history

Update 2024/02/14: OnePlus issued a statement clarifying that the 256 GB OnePlus 12R doesn’t ship with UFS 4.0 storage as originally advertised. So, both the two available variants have UFS 3.1. The original launch coverage below has been corrected accordingly.

After weeks of teasers, the OnePlus 12R has finally landed in the international markets. With the top-specced variant priced at 699 Euro (around $761), this smartphone combines some of the good aspects of the OnePlus 12 with factors that the R series is known for.

OnePlus says that the OnePlus 12R is designed for those who demand the best performance in any situation. To deliver that, the company has integrated “tuned” hardware paired with optimized software. As for the hardware, the main highlight of the device is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

While it’s not the latest and greatest out there, the 8 Gen 2 is still a powerful SoC. OnePlus packed it inside the Ace 2 Pro, which sits comfortably on the top spots in AnTuTu benchmark’s list of phones with the same chip.

It’s paired with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and the same Cryo-velocity cooling architecture found in the OnePlus 12. The 12R also comes with up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Regarding software optimizations, one of the highlights is the Trinity Engine. OnePlus says that it makes the “tuned” hardware of the OnePlus 12R offer a stable performance. The smartphone also has a capable camera configuration, with the 50 MP Sony IMX890 as the primary sensor on the back.

Battery-wise, the OnePlus 12R has the largest capacity in OnePlus’s portfolio. It’s a 5,500 mAh cell that can charge at 100W. To compare, the OnePlus 12 has a 5400 mAh battery. But note that there’s no support for wireless charging on the 12R. When it comes to the screen, the smartphone has a 1.5K AMOLED LTPO 4.0 panel that can offer up to 120 Hz of refresh rate. OnePlus also plans to debut a special OnePlus 12R Genshin Impact Edition on February 28. It will come with a custom-designed box and exclusive collectible merchandise.
