Realme 12 Pro: Teaser reveals periscope telephoto camera, Sony IMX890 and other details of the mid-range smartphone
The design of the Realme 12 Pro was recently revealed in the first teaser images along with the hint that the optics were developed in collaboration with luxury watch designer Ollivier Saveo, which is why parallels with matching wristwatches have been drawn.
Realme has now published new teasers on Weibo and X that provide an insight into the camera hardware of the Realme 12 Pro series. And these specs are quite unusual for a midrange smartphone, as Realme has installed a periscope telephoto camera that is usually only found in more expensive smartphones. Although this "only" achieves 3x optical zoom, it is also said to reach up to 6x zoom thanks to the 64 MP OmniVision OV64B sensor in 1/2 inch format together with "lossless digital zoom".
A maximum of 120x zoom is reportedly possible, but at the expense of image quality. The main camera is equipped with a Sony IMX890, a 50 MP sensor in 1/1.5 inch format. Realme has not yet confirmed any further details about the ultra-wide-angle camera. The event website confirms that the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+ will be officially unveiled in January, while Yanko Design has already published the first hands-on photos of the successor to the Realme 11 Pro.
Rumors point to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 with a maximum of 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of flash storage, but no further details on the features of the new midrange smartphones from Realme are known yet.
