Xiaomi CIVI 4 Pro and new mystery Redmi smartphone revealed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipsets
Xiaomi has joined Motorola and iQOO by confirming that it has adopted the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8 series chipset. For reference, Qualcomm revealed the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 earlier today, full details of which we have covered separately. In summary, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is effectively a scaled back Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with a weaker CPU, GPU and 5G modem, among other changes.
As Qualcomm suggested, Xiaomi has prepared not only a device under its own name but also one under its Redmi sub-brand. On the one hand, the company has announced the CIVI 4 Pro. For context, this is the first time that Xiaomi has attached the 'Pro' moniker to a CIVI smartphone. Incidentally, Xiaomi describes the CIVI 4 Pro as a little Xiaomi 14 Pro, although we suspect that this extends to its performance capabilities and not its physical size.
Additionally, Xiaomi briefly showed a visualisation of the CIVI 4 Pro's rear in which three rear-facing cameras can be seen. Moreover, regulatory bodies may have recently revealed charging specs and connectivity options for the same device, which was previously thought of as the CIVI 4. On the other hand, Xiaomi has hinted that it will bring the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 to its Redmi brand through an entirely new series, setting the device apart from its existing Redmi Note and Redmi K options. Unfortunately, other details about the CIVI 4 Pro and the mysterious Redmi handset remain unknown for now, including release dates.
