iPhone 17 tipped to switch to series-first central camera hump
As the name suggests, Apple is thought to introduce an arguably long belated overhaul in iPhone weight and thickness with the rumored 17 Air.
The alleged addition to the Cupertino giant's flagship line-up is portrayed as having just 1 rear camera in YouTube channel AppleTrack's latest renders.
The resulting design (most reminiscent of the SE - or the 8, still available on Amazon today for as little as $116) might seem counterintuitive, especially given fresh speculation that it might come with a price hiked to anywhere between $1,299 and $1,499; then again, the single rear-facing lens is also thought to combine the 48MP wide-angle and 2x telephoto functions of the current iPhone 16 in one.
On that note, other members of the 17 series are thought to stick with that device's dual rear camera hump - however, according to AppleTrack, it will go back to being horizontal rather than vertical.
However, unlike its 8 Plus forebear - and every other iPhone before it - it is thought to migrate from the left corner to the midline of the back panel.
Such binocular camera humps are not usual in smartphone circles (especially ones so close to the top of the rear panel, as in the new concept images), although the Carl Pei-led start-up Nothing has recently pulled it off with its Phone (2a) series.
