Carl Pei confirms new Nothing flagship phone with focus on AI
While many of us were expecting Nothing to make its new flagship phone go official next month, Carl Pei just confirmed that the Phone 3 is delayed to 2025. Given that the Phone 2 is turning a year old in July and the usual refresh yearly cycle of high-end smartphones, this is a reasonably noticeable gap.
But it seems Nothing didn't just want to launch a new flagship and pack it with unnecessary AI features to make it appear attractive. Instead, the company is taking its time and wants to make AI "integrated at a system level" to "redefine the user interface" and offer "a highly personalized and dynamic user experience."
The video that Carl Pei, the company's CEO, posted about Nothing Phone 3 talks about what you can expect from the next flagship. This video highlights the "post-app world," which the company wants to connect to today's app-based world with "a bridge."
Nothing has also shown off two main ideas, with one of them being a "hub" that will remain on the home screen and show all the information you may need in one place. It's "dynamic and context-aware" and can offer you stuff like a boarding pass QR code and reminders when needed.
As for the second main idea, it's an AI-powered voice companion. Nothing says it to be multimodal and "friend-like" with animated "eyes." It will be "uniquely tailored and personalized" for each user. This companion may even be on the lock screen or integrated with Glyph lights in the future.
Both these projects are in their early days, and we may not see them launch before the Nothing Phone 3. We also don't know whether the company will bring the new AI features to the Phone 1, Phone 2 (12/256 curr. $619 on Amazon), or the recently released Phone 2a.
