Fresh leak suggests iPhone 17 'Air' or 'Slim' will be the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever made
Apple's elusive iPhone 17 'Air' has been the subject of a plethora of rather confusing leaks and rumors as of late. This upcoming member of the iPhone 17 lineup is expected to command a premium price tag, albeit missing out on a couple of key flagship features.
For starters, the iPhone 17 'Air,' or whatever Apple decides to call it, will feature a single rear camera as opposed to the triple-camera setup that has graced the iPhone 'Pro' variants for over five years. The rumored 6.6-inch display is also not the biggest that Apple offers, thanks to the gigantic 6.9-inch iPhone 16 Pro Max — likely the same on the 17 Pro as well.
However, as the name suggests, the iPhone 17 'Air' will be a shockingly thin smartphone. Rumored to be around 6 mm thin, the iPhone 17 'Air' will be Apple's thinnest smartphone by far in over a decade. The iPhone 6, launched in the fall of 2014, rocked a 6.9 mm slim enclosure and has held the crown for the thinnest Apple smartphone ever since it saw the light of day.
That being said, it should be kept in mind that despite featuring a 6 mm thin enclosure, the rumored iPhone 17 'Air' will still be nowhere near as thin as Apple's 2024 iPad Pro (currently $1,799 on Amazon), which comes in at just 5.4 mm thin. Other rumored features of the iPhone 17 'Air' include the A19 SoC paired with 8 GB of memory, a 24 MP front-facing camera, and the aforementioned 48 MP rear camera.
Interestingly, this new iPhone 17 'Air' variant will not be the only Apple product to receive the slimming treatment. As previously indicated by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple has seemingly reignited its obsession with thinness, with future MacBook Pros, Apple Watches, as well as iPhones set to witness slimmer enclosures starting as early as next year.
