The Samsung Galaxy S25 series launch is around the corner, with the next Unpacked event being recently confirmed for January 22. While the company hasn't officially revealed anything about the new flagship phones yet, there have been a ton of leaks about the upcoming devices.
Some of those reports asserted that Samsung would make 12 GB RAM the starting point for the entire Galaxy S25 line, which would be a major upgrade from the 8 GB base configuration that the last-gen series had. Now, a new leak is suggesting that there would be another upgrade in terms of memory.
This new leak comes from a reputed Korean media, ETNews, and the report shares that the entire Galaxy S25 series will stick with LPDDR5X RAM. However, Samsung has reportedly sourced 12 nm memory chips from Micron. With the lithography seeing an upgrade from the 13 nm node, these RAM chips should offer better performance and efficiency.
It's worth noting that Samsung itself makes 12 nm RAM chips, but the South Korean giant was reportedly struggling with thermal issues (Black Shark Fun Cooler 3 Pro curr. $44.99 on Amazon). Samsung is said to have solved the problem, but to ensure no delay in the launch of the Galaxy S25 series, the company had to source the LPDDR5X RAM chips from Micron instead.
Sourcing parts from third-party entities isn't uncommon, but it does raise the bill of materials. Speaking of which, the entire Galaxy S25 series is expected to see a price hike. Per recent reports, all the upcoming phones could see a €100 hike in Europe, and there could be a similar level of price bump in the other regions.
