After a recent leak from Japan revealed the supposed price range of the presumably planned iPhone SE 4, two leakers are now suggesting that the new budget iPhone will be renamed and repositioned. First, a Chinese leaker reported this on Chinese network Weibo in mid-December, and now leaker Majin Bu also claims to have learned that Apple intends to discontinue the iPhone SE series and launch the new budget iPhone, previously known as the iPhone SE 4 or iPhone SE 2025, as the iPhone 16e. Bu's leaks have often proved correct in the past, but not always.
iPhone 16e instead of iPhone 14 and iPhone 15
We recently argued why it is not unlikely that, following the launch of the new iPhone Special Edition, both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 will become redundant and will probably no longer be officially sold by Apple. The iPhone 14 is no longer available in the Apple Store in Europe due to the new EU regulations. If the many previous hints about the technical data of the entry-level iPhone, possibly called the iPhone 16e, prove to be true, integration into the iPhone 16 lineup would only be logical. After all, apart from the camera, potentially less storage and some design features such as Dynamic Island, the iPhone 16 offers mostly the same features as the iPhone 14 for significantly less money. However, it should be noted that these hints about the renaming of the iPhone SE series have not yet been proven and could turn out to be false.
