We already know that Apple's 2025 iPhone lineup will witness a new entrant - the iPhone 17 Air. While the leaked specifications for the upcoming smartphone offer a mixed bag of features, such as a gimped single-camera setup, the present consensus among tipsters and analysts indicates that the iPhone 17 Air will likely be the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever made, which will be its primary selling point.
A recent blog post by the prominent supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has further shed light on that aspect, revealing that the iPhone 17 Air will be around 5.5 mm thin - making it, by far, the thinnest iPhone ever. He also revealed that the iPhone 17 Air will do away with a physical SIM tray, and instead rely solely on eSIM support. This has been rumored previously as well, not just for the iPhone 17 Air, but for the entire iPhone 17 lineup as a whole.
Interestingly, this marks Apple's return to an obsession with thinness for its products, which we witnessed recently with the Apple Watch Series 10. Furthermore, prominent analyst Mark Gurman has also revealed that the future products by the Cupertino giant, including the next-generation MacBooks, will prioritize thinness once again. Of course, considering the performance and efficiency strides brought by Apple Silicon, Apple might actually pull off thinner designs without hindering thermals or performance. But regardless, how that plays out remains to be seen.
