Just a few days ago, a dummy of the iPhone 16e was spotted in photos, and now leaker @MajinBuOfficial has published images showing a CAD model of the next-generation entry-level iPhone in the protective case of an iPhone 14. This is intended to visualize the differences between the two smartphones and to show the minimal adjustments that have been made to the position of all buttons, speakers and microphones. Otherwise the dimensions of the two devices are practically identical, meaning that screen protectors for the iPhone 14 may well also be compatible with the iPhone 16e.
There are a few differences in the details of the housing: the Lightning port has been replaced by a USB-C port and the silent switch has been replaced by the Action button, the function of which can be configured by the user. The biggest difference appears to be the camera module: the large, square camera module of the iPhone 14, which housed two cameras, has been replaced by a single camera with an LED flash and a microphone. After all, Apple is said to be installing a high-resolution 48 MP camera instead of the 12 MP main camera of the iPhone 14.
Compared to the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16e apparently not only does without the second camera on the back, but also omits Dynamic Island in favor of keeping the iPhone 14-style notch. According to rumours, the iPhone 16e has a less bright 6.1-inch OLED display that reaches a maximum brightness of 1,200 nits instead of 2,000 nits, but otherwise the features are said to be practically the same as the iPhone 16, including the Apple A18 chip, waterproof casing and MagSafe. The iPhone 16e or iPhone SE 4 is expected to be launched by the end of April at the latest.
