Ever since Uber started its courier service, there have been quite a lot of complaints about missing or damaged packages. Now, it looks like Uber is working on implementing some protective measures that could include reimbursing the customer. These developments were reportedly spotted in the code for the Uber app so there is no official confirmation on if and when these features will arrive.
According to an APK teardown by Android Authority, the Uber app version 4-573-10001-beta has mentions of “Package protection” and a subtitle that states that the customer will be reimbursed the value of the package, up to a certain amount. The string in the code mentions ‘%$1’ but that’s probably a place holder and the value, whether fixed or calculated by percentage, is unknown.
Furthermore, Android Authority also spotted strings mentioning “insurance” which is related to the courier related strings in the code. It is unclear if the insurance feature will be part of the package protection system at this point. However, it does make sense that a customer will be asked to insure their package if they want it to be protected and the value to be reimbursed in case of damage of theft.
As of now, Uber does not offer insurance on packages sent via the courier service and those who face these issues have to file a claim. As mentioned earlier, Uber has not shared any official confirmation on these features and it is hard to say if they will ever make it to the app for users to take advantage of.
