There have been an increasing amount of rumours about Apple's first foldable lately. To recap, there were reports of a clamshell device being in development the size of a Galaxy Z Flip6 or Razr 50 Ultra (curr. $689.99 on Amazon).
More recently though, there have been claims that a larger variant may be Apple's preferred option but with a form factor closer to the Find N2 than the Galaxy Z Fold6. Now, ETNews has shed new light on the state of Apple's inaugural foldable.
Reportedly, the sourcing of component suppliers remains on track to finish in April. For example, Amphenol is said to be in contention to supply hinge mechanisms, having already done so previously for various MacBook Pro generations. Meanwhile, Apple is expected to leverage Corning for ultra-thin glass (UTG) across the so-called iPhone Fold's internal display.
With that being said, the website states that Apple has agreed exclusivity with Samsung Display to supply of OLED panels for the device. ETNews adds that an entirely new flexible OLED panel has been in development since last year for the iPhone Fold with a focus to 'eliminate the crease at all costs'.
Allegedly, this consideration comes 'regardless of price' in the hope of distinguishing Apple's first foldable from its peers. As it stands, Apple is expected to release its first foldable in 2026, likely in the second half of the year.
