Rumours about the iPhone Fold have been swirling for months, suggesting that it could launch in 2026 at an estimated price of $3,000. An “iPad Fold” will reportedly follow suit in 2027 or 2028. However, after earlier reports hinted that this device could support Mac apps, analyst Jeff Pu has now said that Apple might actually ship it with macOS, effectively turning it into a MacBook.
If the rumours prove accurate, this so-called “MacBook Fold” would be the first-ever Mac with a touchscreen. Expected to launch in September or October, the upcoming macOS 16 may pave the way for a more touchscreen-friendly experience with its significantly revamped user interface. This also aligns with earlier rumours from 2023 claiming that Apple had already been working on its first touchscreen Mac for quite some time.
Jeff Pu’s predictions diverge from previous rumours concerning the launch timeline. Whilst Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman predicted a 2028 release, Pu expects the device to enter mass production in the second half of 2026, pointing to late 2026 or early 2027 as a likely launch window. In any case, the device is rumoured to feature a foldable OLED panel that unfolds into an 18.8-inch screen with a barely visible crease in the middle. It remains to be seen whether Apple is going to pair the foldable display with a detachable keyboard, similar what we've seen with the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED.
