iPhone Fold: Apple's first foldable could be the long-awaited iPhone 13 mini Pro and iPad mini Pro in one device

Apple may be heading in a different direction for its first 'book-style' foldable than its Android peers. With the foldable market moving towards larger cover displays in recent years, rumours about Apple developing a smaller foldable that offers an iPad mini experience when opened could help help distinguish the so-called iPhone Fold from an increasingly saturated market.Alex Alderson 👁 Published 🇫🇷 🇪🇸 ...
Apple continues to wait on the sidelines of the foldable market, unlike Android OEMs like Google, Samsung, and Oppo, most recently with the Find N5. In recent weeks, there have been suggestions that Apple's first attempt at a foldable smartphone could come in the form of a clamshell device akin to the Galaxy Z Flip6 or Razr 50 Ultra (curr. $579.99 on Amazon). However, other quarters have indicated that a larger book-style foldable is actively being developed.
Sticking with the latter, there have been assumptions that this variant would rival the Pixel 9 Pro Fold or the Galaxy Z Fold6. In other words, Apple would stick with the established form factor for book-style foldables, which has gradually moved to circa 6.5-inch cover displays and 8-inch foldable displays. According to a reliable source, these assumptions are wide of the mark, full details of which we have covered separately.
In summary, the so-called 'iPhone Fold' will sport a 5.49-inch cover display, much like the 5.54-inch and 5.8-inch cover displays of the Oppo Find N2 and Google Pixel Fold, respectively. Since then, both Google and Oppo have adopted much larger form factors made popular by Huawei, Honor and Samsung. By extension, this would make the cover display of Apple's foldable only marginally larger than the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini.
Meanwhile, a rumoured foldable display measuring 7.74-inches could create an iPad mini-like aspect ratio. Hopefully, Apple will throw everything at this device this time around with ProMotion displays and decent cameras, unlike the iPad mini and the iPhone 13 mini. If that were the case, then the iPhone Fold could represent the 'Pro' version of both devices.
