Apple has long been rumored to be readying its first set of foldable devices to launch, close to a decade after Samsung debuted the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip lineups. While Apple's first foldable is expected to be a foldable iPhone, the company has also been said to be working on a foldable tablet.
As revealed by Digital Chat Station, Apple's other foldable will be a foldable iPad Pro. This device, which may well be branded as the iPad Pro Fold, is said to be in development with a humongous 18.8-inch display. It's important to note that the final product could arrive with a differently-sized display, however, but it does raise the question of who exactly needs a tablet of that size.
According to the source report, the iPad Pro Fold will utilize a metal metalens to compensate for the spatial restrictions a foldable tablet introduces. The tablet is also said to feature under-display 3D facial recognition; it wouldn't be surprising if it's one of the first Apple models to do so.
While Apple's inaugural foldable, the foldable iPhone, is widely reported to be on the cards for a 2026 debut, the company's foldable tablet remains years away from launch. Leaks claim the tablet will debut in 2028 at the earliest, and will also feature Capsule OLED Encapsulation technology.
