PUBG developer reveals Project ARC as new indie-style 5v5 isometric co-op shooter
After PUBG's meteoric rise to the mainstream, it looks like the development outfit behind the battle royale is ready to try a different format. Krafton and PUBG Corporation just gave us a sneak peek at the upcoming Project ARC, launching a Steam Store page and publishing a YouTube trailer for the new top-down isometric shooter.
Like PUBG, Project ARC is a co-op PvP shooter, although instead of the infamous battle royale format, Project ARC takes an approach often favoured by indie developers, opting for an isometric third-person perspective. It also looks like Project ARC will shake things up when it comes to game modes, with a greater dependence on strategy and communication than the likes of PUBG. The Project ARC Steam Store page also teases a variety of weapons, from SMGs, assault rifles, and rocket launchers, to smoke grenades, recon drones, and proximity mines.
PUBG Corporation and Krafton say that the new game will feature fast-paced combat, with line of sight playing a key role in combat encounters. Judging by the description on Steam and the single announcement trailer, it looks like players will have to think quickly and use a combination of the environment, weapons, and gadgets in order to manipulate their own and their enemy's line of sight to gain an advantage. Project ARC seems to also focus entirely on indoor, close-quarters encounters, which will likely not only make gunfights fast and decisive, but it will also force players to engage one-another, avoiding the waiting game that often plays out with large-scale battle royales.
For now, Project ARC doesn't have a firm release date or even a release window, but you can wishlist and follow the upcoming game on Steam. It's also unclear whether Project ARC will support the Steam Deck or Linux gameplay, but given its twin-stick-shooter-style gameplay, it seems almost perfect for consoles like the Deck.
