The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is set to see the light of day on the 7th of November. The 120 W chip is expected to arrive with 8 Zen 5 cores and a boost clock of 5.2 GH. In a recent Blender benchmark apperance, the 9800X3D thrashes the 7800X3D will failing to keep up with Intel's Arrow Lake-S.

AMD's upcoming addition to the Granite Ridge family, the much-awaited Ryzen 7 9800X3D is set to hit the scene on November 7. Multiple benchmarks have already shown up on the interwebs, with the most recent one shedding light on the CPU's Blender performance.

Spotted by HXL, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D managed to rake in around 325 points in the Blender benchmark, demonstrating a substantial 25% improvement over its predecessor, the 7800X3D, which managed to score around 276 points in the same test. Pretty good for a generational upgrade. Moreover, when compared to the Ryzen 7 9700X, the 9800X3D appears to be around 10% faster.

When pitted against the latest offerings from its arch-rival, Intel, the results paint a more disappointing picture. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is only a hair faster than the recently launched Core Ultra 5 245 'Arrow Lake-S' CPU while being significantly slower than the Core Ultra 7 265K that scored a respectable 422 points, which is to be expected considering that it boasts the same number of performance cores, but with an additional 12 efficiency-oriented 'Skymont' cores.

Needless to say, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is a gaming-oriented chip, and it will most likely excel in that regard if the leaked performance figures are anything to go by, especially when paired with Arrow Lake's arguably poor gaming performance. For those who missed the recently leaked spec sheet, here is a quick refresher: a single CCD with 8 Zen 5 cores, a 120 W TDP, and clocks at 4.7 GHz base and 5.2 GHz boost.
