Eye-watering RTX 5090 price leaks alongside possible January release date
Nvidia is expected to unveil the first batch of RTX 50 “Blackwell” cards at CES 2025. This first batch will most likely include the flagship RTX 5090 and the RTX 5080 with the GB203 and GB202 GPUs, respectively. However, customers might have to pay a pretty penny for the flagship performance of the RTX 5090 according to a new leak.
GeForce RTX 5090 price
According to @I_Leak_VN on X, the RTX 5090 price will be around $2,000 and the card will be released on or close to January 20, 2025. Putting the price aside for a moment, the RTX 5090 release date makes sense since Nvidia is holding an event at CES 2025 and we could see the company officially reveal the RTX 50 GPUs with the launch falling some days later.
Coming to the price, the RTX 5090 being a $2,000 card is not out of the question as Nvidia has historically sold its flagship cards at a premium. For instance, the RTX 2080 Ti was launched in 2018 at $999, whereas the ultra-enthusiast RTX Titan commanded a staggering $2,499 at launch. With the RTX 30 series, Nvidia charged $1,499 for the RTX 3090 and $1,999 for the RTX 3090 Ti.
While we didn’t see a successor to the RTX 3090 Ti, Team Green raised the MSRP of the RTX 4090 by $100 vs its direct predecessor and the RTX 4090 Founders Edition has an MSRP of $1,599. Unfortunately, the RTX 4090 is nearly impossible to find at $1,600, as the cheapest option that is currently in stock costs $2,130 on Amazon and $1,950 on Newegg.
Keeping this in mind, it is not hard to see Nvidia increasing the price of the RTX 5090 vs the RTX 4090, since not only will the GPU be more powerful than its predecessor but it also reportedly packs a whopping 32 GB of VRAM.
We must mention here that GPU pricing is never final until Nvidia announces the actual MSRP. So, take the leaked RTX 5090 price with a healthy dose of skepticism.
RTX 5090 specifications
As mentioned above, the RTX 5090 is poised to bring some significant spec bumps over the RTX 4090. So far, leaks have alleged a massive 33% increase in CUDA cores, 8 GB more VRAM, and a 512-bit wide bus vs 384-bit for the RTX 4090. Additionally, the RTX 5090’s GDDR7 memory is allegedly a lot faster at 28 Gbps vs RTX 4090’s 21 Gbps GDDR6X.
Sadly, these spec bumps could coincide with a Total Graphics Power of 650 W, an increase of 150 W vs the previous gen.
