This first person shooter is free on Steam – today only
Unloved is the work of German solo developer Paul Schneider, also known as "BlueEagle". The game, inspired by the classic Doom 2 mod of the same name, was released as a standalone title in 2016. Blending dungeon crawler elements with a challenging first-person shooter style, it offers a unique retro-inspired experience.
The game repeatedly sends players into dark, maze-like levels that are randomly generated - meaning they change every time. The mission is simple: collect weapons, ammunition and healing items, survive and escape. But that’s no easy task, as monsters lurk around every corner, ready to tear you to pieces. Players can fight their way through the labyrinths alone or in co-op mode with up to three other players.
On Steam, Unloved has predominantly positive ratings: 76 percent from around 1,300 reviews. The user score on Metacritic is slightly lower at 6.0, which is due to many minor points of criticism. Among other things, players criticize the slow pick-up of items, the difficult-to-read user interface and the lack of a save function. However, fans of retro shooters should still enjoy Unloved – especially since it’s available on Steam until November 1 at 6 p.m. (CET) for $0 instead of $4.
