Black Ops 6 devs repeat past mistakes by reviving controversial MW3 mechanics
After a long wait, the next CoD spin-off will finally be released on October 25 - and so far, Black Ops 6 has been overwhelmingly well received by the community, as evidenced by the current Metascore of 85. However, at least one group of players is less happy - the snipers. Because Black Ops 6 also brings back an old acquaintance from its predecessor - weapon sway. This element of mechanics makes aiming when using the first-person perspective more difficult by causing the weapon to sway unpredictably.
The weapon sway feature is present in the so-called ADS mode (Aim Down Sights), in which players aim their weapon in order to shoot more precisely via the sights. Because of the random sway, the sight doesn’t return to its original position after aiming - a particular frustration for snipers and quickscopers, who typically have only milliseconds to readjust manually. The following video on TrueGameData's X channel shows what this looks like in practice:

Weapon sway was already criticized in MW3
Even in its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the weapon sway feature faced heavy criticism, prompting Sledgehammer Games to release a patch in February 2024, reducing its effect. This makes players all the more frustrated about the return of this feature in the new game. The developers of Black Ops 6, Treyarch and Raven Software, seem to have overlooked the lessons learned by their predecessors.
Possible solution: target laser attachment
It remains to be seen whether the weapon sway will also be toned down in Black Ops 6. Until then, snipers and quickscopers can make do with the target laser attachment, which should slightly improve weapon sway.
