Update | ROG Phone 9 Pro tipped to launch with 2nd fastest Android smartphone display
November 1, 18:36 CEST update: This news piece originally claimed that the new Asus phone's display is the fastest in the world. This has been corrected. Apologies. The edited article follows below.
Asus' ROG Phone 9 series will be quite late to the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Android smartphone party by the time it becomes official on November 19, 2024. However, at least 1 of the new devices will be worth waiting for, according to prodigious leaker Digital Chat Station.
The tipster claims to have been privy to quite a mobile gaming revelation: Asus intends to give its latest ROG Phones quite a boost in the form of a new 185Hz LTPO display.
That would be a substantial upgrade to spring on the smartphone industry, even though the ROG Phone 8 Pro (as found on Amazon) already has a 165Hz display and the recently unveiled Aquos R9 Pro delivers 240Hz.
The new top spec (presuming it is not a mistake or a typo of some kind) might be reserved for the 9 Pro, although even the vanilla 9 might benefit from Asus' alleged "SoC center design", now backed as the best way to keep the 8 Elite cool.
The first-ever "185Hz" ROG Phone is also predicted to have IP68 dust- and water-proofing and boast AniMe Vision, an apparently richly-featured miniLED rear-facing display.
