Asus ROG Phone 9: Leak reveals specs including Snapdragon 8 Elite and AI features, but also downgrades
Asus showcased the ROG Phone 9 for the first time on Tuesday, not only revealing the design of the flagship, including the innovative secondary display on the back, but also confirming that the smartphone will be officially unveiled on November 19. 91mobiles has now been able to find out the most important specs of the smartphone in advance.
If the information from 91mobiles is correct, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite is the only really significant upgrade compared to the ROG Phone 8. This is because the 6.78-inch AMOLED display has been carried over unchanged from the previous model, along with the variable frame rate up to a maximum of 165 Hz, the resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 and the HDR peak brightness of 2,500 nits. Just like its predecessor, the device has a 32 MP selfie camera, a 50 MP f/1.9 main camera with a sensor in 1/1.56 inch format and a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, although the 32 MP telephoto camera has been replaced by a less useful 5 MP macro camera.
The battery has increased by 300 mAh to a total of 5,800 mAh, and charging takes place via USB-C with up to 65 watts. Whether wireless charging is also possible, as was the case in the previous model, remains to be seen. The smartphone is said to have a 3.5 mm headphone jack with a Hi-Fi DAC so that music up to 32-bit at 384 kHz is playable. Asus is likely to advertise AI features in particular as innovations, as the smartphone will be able to use AI to translate calls and create transcripts, generate background images, recognize objects via the camera and scale games to a higher resolution.
