The dot matrix display (AniMe Vision) of the ROG Phone 9 series is getting a cool new feature. In addition to showing notifications, time, battery level, and customizable texts, the display's new feature further reinforces the phone's designed for gaming.

The launch of the ROG Phone 9 series is less than two weeks away, and just as is the tradition with several manufacturers, Asus has been dropping teasers highlighting features of the upcoming phones. A new teaser focuses on the AniMe Vision mini-LED on the back of the ROG Phone 9/ROG Phone 9 Pro, and it seems to have gained a new trick compared to when it first debuted on the ROG Phone 8 Pro.

The dot matrix display will be able to show a variety of animations, custom text, and useful info such as call notifications, battery level, time, timer and weather. It will also have unique animations when a user taps it against another ROG Phone 9/9 Pro. All of these are available on the ROG Phone 8 Pro (curr. available on Amazon for $929) in addition to allowing users to import their own animations.

However, a new trick it seems to have is support for mini games. In two promotional videos uploaded on Weibo by the official ROG Gaming Phone account, the AniMe Vision display is shown displaying a variety of games such as PacMan and Dino Run. In one of the videos, it shows a user playing a Space Invaders-like game with the pressure-sensitive triggers on the side of the phone. Both videos can be viewed in the source links below.

It is interesting to see a nifty feature such as a secondary display get more functions. However, it isn't known if both the standard model and the pro model will have this secondary display. Last year, the standard ROG Phone 8 (curr. available on Amazon for $779.99) missed out on the display but got an RGB Aura logo with LEDs.

The ROG Phone 9 series is scheduled to launch on November 19 and it has been confirmed to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. There have been several leaks already, including an unboxing of the ROG Phone 9.
