The Xiaomi Mijia Dictionary Pen C1 has been revealed in China. This is a multifunctional gadget designed to help children to learn Chinese and English. The pen has a built-in 3.02-inch (~77 mm) display, which can display the definition, pronunciation and translation of words, as well as the remaining battery level.
The Mijia Dictionary Pen C1 uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to detect words on the page. It is said to process words in 0.3 seconds with 98% accuracy and a vocabulary of over 26 million words. Alternatively, you can use voice search to look up words, and there is support for offline queries. The definitions provided on the pen’s screen can be adjusted to suit the child’s age, and remote parental controls are offered in the Mijia app. According to Xiaomi, the gadget can last for up to 100 days on standby and has 32GB storage.
Xiaomi will launch a crowdfunding campaign for the Mijia Dictionary Pen C1 in China on December 18th. Backers will be asked to pledge CNY 349 (~$48) for the product, saving CNY 50 (~$7) on the CNY 399 (~$55) RRP. It is unclear whether or when the company will officially launch the gadget in other markets like Europe at a later date. Xiaomi already sells gadgets here like the Multi-function Flashlight, currently €33.61 at Amazon Germany.
