Huawei Qingyun L540: China-exclusive laptop unveiled with mysterious Kirin 9006C SoC
Huawei quietly unveiled an interesting new laptop recently. At first glance, the Huawei Qingyun L540 laptop might seem like a run-of-the-mill entry-level machine. However, its spec sheet reveals an unreleased CPU, the Kirin 9006C. A set of Geekbench listings further demystify the never-before-seen chip.
It seems like the Kirin 9006C is essentially a Kirin 9000E with a fresh coat of paint with its 1x Cortex-A77 core (3.13 GHz), 2x Cortex-A77 (2.83 GHz), 4x Cortex-A55 cores (2.05 GHz) and Arm Mali-G78 MP22 GPU. What makes the Kirin 9006C more interesting is the fact that it is a 5 nm chip, further proving that it is repurposed hardware because SMIC is incapable of fabricating 5 nm chips in its current state.
Otherwise, the Qingyun L540 is a regular notebook with its 14-inch QHD (2,560 x 1,440) 60 Hz screen and 56 Wh battery. It supports up to 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage and has the standard fare of ports, such as 1x USB-C, 2x USB-A, HDMI and a 3.5 mm audio jack. It is available for sale in China but only to government agencies.
