More XMAGE branding, custom cameras and Art variants are on the way as Huawei moves on to a new crop of P-series premium smartphones soon, according to Ming-Chi Kuo.
The respected TF International Securities analyst predicts that the P70 series will also include vanilla and Pro versions, and will "continue to drive the camera upgrade cycle for high-end smartphones" on their launch.
The P60-series successors are slated to do so with new periscope zoom lenses sourced from either Largan or Sunny Optical, in sizes of 1/3.6-inches for the P70, or 1/2.5 inches for the P70 Pro. However, there may be even bigger upgrades for their top-end counterpart.
The P70 "Pro Art" is said to get a new "wide camera" with a particularly large 1/1-inch footprint - enhanced, moreover, with the high-end 1G6P lens type that will be "about 4–5 times" more expensive than even a more conventional 7P (7 layers of plastic (P)) lens due to its single glass (G) component.
Nevertheless, the Huawei P70 devices are backed to "see significant shipment growth" compared to their P60 counterparts, despite the fact that the 2023 series moved up to 5 million units.
That potential year-on-year improvement might be due to the newer smartphones' "introduction" (or re-introduction, rather) to "Huawei’s own Kirin chips", thereby matching the even higher-end Mate 60 series. This allegedly upgraded P70 series is projected to hit the market from the first quarter of 2024.
