SteamOS continues to receive updates aplenty of late. Having already issued four update packages this month, Valve has now released another three, including SteamOS 3.5.16, which introduce several improvements to Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED gaming handhelds.

SteamOS has gained new features and updates, shortly after Valve addressed several bugs earlier this month. To recap, the company has already delivered SteamOS 3.5.14, SteamOS 3.5.15 and two Steam Deck Beta Client updates. Now, it has published two more of the latter, as well as SteamOS 3.5.16.

According to the SteamOS 3.5.16 changelog, it only further improves Persona 3 Reload performance on all Steam Deck models, which was also the case for SteamOS 3.5.14. However, Valve has not disclosed the ways in which it has improved Persona 3 Reload performance this time around. Conversely, February 13 and February 14 Beta Client updates make the following changes:

General

  • Fixed a case where no element would be selected in the UI when closing the quick access menu.
  • Fixed CD Keys popup not appearing during launch for games that request it.
  • Fixed failing to switch to Japanese keyboard layout.
  • Fixed some extraneous disk reads that could impact performance

Desktop Mode

  • Fixed a case where mouse click input could stop working when starting to drag operation on a steam window.

Desktop UI

  • Stopped showing ready-to-play icon on Recent Games shelf, which does not filter to ready-to-play.
  • Fixed main Steam window re-opening when closed if small mode has been entered or exited
  • Fixed Steam windows sometimes freezing until resized.

Moreover, the latest Beta Client update adds SteamOS Crash Report functionality. By default, Valve disables this feature, which is accessible within Settings > System. While Valve stresses that 'granular control over what types of information will be sent' remains, all Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED models will automatically 'send crash reports and system information to Valve' the next time they are connected to the internet. Please see the Steam Deck News Hub for more details.
