SteamOS gains new improvements and bug fixes via latest updates for Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED models
Valve continues to add new features and improvements to SteamOS at a rate of knots. While the company has not pushed any stable updates to the Steam Deck in a few weeks, it has been busy preparing various changes that are ready to try on its Preview program. To kick off the month, Valve delivered SteamOS 3.5.14, an update that made the following changes across all Steam Deck units:
- Improved performance of ray-traced reflections in Persona 3 Reload
- Slightly improved corner tracking on Steam Deck OLED trackpads
- Fixed a possible session crash when connecting an HDR display
- Fixed a rare session crash on application exit
Subsequently, the company released a new Client Update that resolves outstanding issues with popup menus and other popup dialogues. Also, the same update contained a fix for the Gyro enable button 'not being respected', as well as quality-of-life refinements that allowed controllers to be used to continue or dismiss when controller support information panels appear before a game's launch. Moreover, the 'Gyro Calibration' button is now listed under the controller config quick settings and a new gyro section within the controller layout editor.
Furthermore, a separate update fixed game news appearing out of order in the game details activity feed, plus a duplicate friend counter that could occur on game capsules. On top of that, Valve added a privacy icon to personal in-game statuses, which sits at the top of the friends list when in a private game and is only shown to you. Most recently, the company released SteamOS 3.5.15, which is said to improve GPU crash handling and HDR gamut mapping on the Deck OLED. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when these changes will reach stable status. However, more updates can be found on Valve's Steam Deck News Hub.
