Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 (2024): A gaming laptop with an RTX 4090 and mini-LED panel
The Scar 18 is currently one of the most powerful laptops. A Core i9-14900HX and GeForce RTX 4090 allow 4k gaming, video processing, and rendering. The bright and colorful mini-LED display (18 inches, 2560x1600 pixels, DCI-P3) is a feast for the eyes.

With the ROG Strix Scar 18, Asus delivers a powerful high-end laptop that targets mainly gamers and creators. The necessary computing performance is delivered by Raptor Lake Refresh and Ada Lovelace. Our test unit is available starting from about 4,500 Euros (~$4,848), but more affordable models are also available.

With a Core i9-14900HX, GeForce RTX 4090, and 32 GB of RAM (DDR5-5600, dual-channel mode), the laptop is ready for video processing, rendering, streaming, and gaming. The necessary storage space is provided by a fast PCIe 4 SSD (2 TB) that also ensures short load times. There is also space for a second SSD, and RAID-0 is supported. The display is a large, very fast, and bright (almost 1,000 cd/m²) mini-LED screen in the 16:10 format (2560x1600 pixels, IPS, 240 Hz, DCI-P3) that offers a rich contrast, produces vibrant colors, and left a very good impression with us.

The hardware used here is able to bring all the current games smoothly to the matte screen. Usually, you can select the full display resolution and maximum settings. Higher resolutions can also be used, if you connect the corresponding monitor - the laptop offers a total of three video outputs (1x HDMI, 2x DP). Games with support for DLSS 3 and Frame Generation can be played in 4k resolution at maximum settings, including additional raytracing effects.

A single battery charge (90 Wh) should last for realistic runtimes of about 7.5 hours – a very good value. This also means that you don't necessarily have to bring the hefty 330-Watt charger with you for mobile usage. The battery can also be charged via USB-C charger, since one of the two USB-C ports also supports Power Delivery.
