If you are currently saving your money for one of the numerous AAA titles that will be released in the coming weeks - such as Skull and Bones (available for pre-order here on Amazon), which will be available from February 16, or Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth (available for pre-order here on Amazon), which is scheduled for release on February 29 - you can pass the time until then with two games that are currently available for free on Steam.
Dead Island: Riptide Definitive Edition
The Definitive Edition is a polished version of Dead Island: Riptide - an action RPG released in 2013 that takes place in an open world setting on a tropical island that has been overrun by zombies. The Definitive Edition enhances the visual experience with overhauled graphics, including higher resolution textures, improved lighting effects and more. This makes the bloody survival scenario even more immersive. Playable solo or in co-op mode, gamers can choose between different characters with unique abilities. The game has a strong focus on melee combat and uses a diverse arsenal of weapons that can be modified and upgraded to fight the zombie hordes more effectively. At 74 percent, the ratings on Steam are predominantly positive. The game is available for free until February 15 at 5 pm.
RPG Maker XP
RPG Maker XP is not a classic game, but a software tool gamers can use to create their own RPGs - without any programming knowledge. Users can create their own characters, stories, combat systems and entire RPG worlds. RPG Maker XP has an active community that provides resources (e.g. graphics, sound effects or animation files), tutorials and support, making it a popular tool for hobbyists and aspiring game developers. With its extensive tileset options, event management system and scripting support through the Ruby programming language, it provides a flexible platform for 2D role-playing game creation. The ratings on Steam are very positive at 93 percent. Gamers can get the software for free until February 19 at 7 pm.
