The Tesla Cybertruck was put to the test by a YouTuber in a daring experiment in deep water. Using "wade mode", it crossed flooded areas and reached its limits. During the endurance test, the e-pickup suffered some minor damage.

The Tesla Cybertruck has been put through a tough test to find out what depths of water it will really be able to cross. In order to cross rivers or flooded areas, the electric pickup truck has a so-called wade mode, which is supposed to allow it to cross the water unharmed.

YouTuber TechRax is usually known for destroying all sorts of gadgets, such as Apple iPhones, by smashing them with a hammer, but he has also recently started to make videos in which he puts his truck through its paces.

In the latest video, he praises the wade mode, which, according to the settings "raises ride height and pressurizes battery when driving through water." There are several settings for the mode: low, medium, high and very high, and once activated there is a time limit of 30 minutes.

The TechRax first of all crosses a flooded road with shallow puddles which, at a height of around 30 cm, is not necessarily safe for any car to drive through. To the surprise of the driver, the vehicle glides through the puddles effortlessly:

Oh my goodness, bro, I can't even see what's going on, but wow, that's taking it with ease, oh my goodness.

The Youtuber then ventures into deeper and deeper areas, which are more reminiscent of a stream, and crosses them at a speed of around 6 to 9 mph (10 to 15 km/h). He repeatedly emphasises that he feels like he is in a tank that nothing can harm.

During a one-off speed test, he reached a speed of around 48 km/h for a short time. In spite of the rising water level, the Cybertruck continues to make good progress until it finally reaches the last point with the maximum water level, which seems to exceed the recommended limit.

It gets interesting when you imagine the state of the pickup truck after it had been maltreated. When inspecting the truck, the driver heard water sloshing around inside the vehicle. There were also two loose plastic parts in the wheel arches and under the bed.

This is not unusual given the extreme challenge. In addition, some of the buttons on the tailgate, such as those for opening the tailgate cover, stopped working a few hours after the test. However, it was still possible to control the functions with the app.
