Samsung has finally shown off its 2025 flagship, the Galaxy S25 Ultra. As is tradition, leakers have left little to the imagination. The company even confirmed some mildly unsettling information, which we'll reveal in a bit. Overall, it is little more than an incremental upgrade over the Galaxy S24 Ultra, but for those coming from the Galaxy S22 Ultra or older, it may be worth a shot.
Design-wise, the Galaxy S25 Ultra doesn't deviate much from the formula set by its predecessors. The four rear camera sensors still occupy the same position, but this time, they are seemingly thicker. A 200 MP sensor serves as the main shooter. It is accompanied by a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a much-needed upgrade from the 12 MP sensor found in older iterations.
There are two sensors for zoom: 50 MP telephoto lens (5x optical zoom) and 10 MP telephoto lens (3x optical zoom). It is rounded off with a 12 MP front-facing camera, which doesn't seem to have changed from the last generation. All videos are, by default, recorded in 10-bit HDR. Other features include depth-of-field control with Virtual Aperture, and enabling precise colour grading options baked into the Galaxy Log application.
Under the hood, Samsung uses a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy and bundled it with Samsung's mobile Digital Natural Image engine (mDNIe) for added display efficiency. Additionally, its Adreno 830 GPU comes with hardware-level ray tracing support. Samsung claims the Galaxy S25 Ultra has a 40% larger vapour chamber compared to its predecessor. All of this is encased in a titanium chassis with a layer of Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass-ceramic hybrid coating that also has anti-reflective properties.
For the screen, you get a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz with Vision Booster and Adaptive Colour Tone. Memory and storage caps out at 12 GB and 1 TB, respectively. However, some Asian markets will get up to 16 GB of RAM. Battery capacity sees no increase, with the Galaxy S25 Ultra using the same 5,000 mAh cells found on many Ultra devices that came before it. Its wired charging caps out at 45 Watts, but it supports the Qi2 wireless standard now.
Other features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, 5G, water IP68 water/dust protection. While the Galaxy S25 Ultra does come with an S Pen, it loses all the Bluetooth features found in older models. Samsung promises seven years of software upgrades for the entire Galaxy S25 series.
