Xiaomi confirms significant changes planned for the Xiaomi 16 series

The upcoming Xiaomi 16 series is expected to launch at the end of September in China as one of the earliest adopters of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset. Leaks revealing key details of the phones have surfaced over the past months, and Xiaomi has now further claimed it has "significant changes" planned for the lineup. 

As shared by company president Lu Weibing, the Xiaomi 16 series is scheduled to launch with big changes from last year's Xiaomi 15 (buy on Amazon) phones. While the executive provided no exact information, he revealed that the lineup would see broad changes in its product positioning and product definition, seemingly confirming previous reports on a lineup shake-up. 

According to word on the grapevine, the Xiaomi 16 series will arrive with four devices this time, including an all-new Xiaomi 16 Pro Max. That device will be a spiritual successor to the Xiaomi 15 Pro—and has also been tipped to sport a rear display. The Xiaomi 16 Pro is then expected to be a smaller, potentially less premium phone than the Xiaomi 15 Pro was. 

A slew of hardware upgrades have been mooted for the Xiaomi 16 series as well, with the phones set to get larger batteries, better cameras, and likely improved audio hardware as seen on the Redmi K80 Extreme Edition.
