Earlier this week, Xiaomi released the Poco F7 globally with particularly aggressive launch pricing. Now, it has stepped up with the Redmi K80 Ultra, which it also refers to as the Redmi K80 Extreme Edition. Regardless of name, the device is expected to serve as a preview for what will eventually replace the Xiaomi 14T Pro (curr. $623 on Amazon).
To that end, Xiaomi has turned to MediaTek to power the Redmi K80 Ultra rather than Qualcomm. In this case, Xiaomi has opted for the Dimensity 9400+ that can also be found in smartphones like the OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra, Oppo Find X8s and the Vivo X200s. On top of that, the Redmi K80 Ultra comes with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 1 TB of UFS 4.1 flash storage like the Mix Flip 2 that also debuted today.
Moreover, the Redmi K80 Ultra features a huge 7,410 mAh battery that supports 100 W wired charging. As usual for Redmi smartphones, the device misses out on wireless charging support altogether. Nonetheless, Xiaomi has installed 50 MP primary and 20 MP front-facing cameras, albeit with a comparatively weak 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera.
The Redmi K80 Ultra's display is another highlight, though. Spanning 6.83 inches diagonally and sitting within a 163.08 x 77.93 x 8.18 mm housing that weighs 219 g, the AMOLED display outputs at 2,772 x 1,280 pixels with a 144 Hz refresh rate, 3,200 nits peak brightness and full DC dimming to eliminate pulse-width modulation (PWM) usge altogether.
Currently, the Redmi K80 Ultra starts at CNY 2,599 (~$363) with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Alternatively, the handset can be configured in one of four colours with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage for CNY 3,799 (~$530). For reference, Xiaomi has priced the device as follows across its five memory options:
- 12 GB RAM/256 GB storage - CNY 2,599 (~$363)
- 16 GB RAM/256 GB storage - CNY 2,799 (~$391)
- 12 GB RAM/512 GB storage - CNY 2,999 (~$418)
- 16 GB RAM/512 GB storage - CNY 3,299 (~$460)
- 16 GB RAM/1 TB storage - CNY 3,799 (~$530)
