Smart sunglasses may not be new technology, but only a select few go the distance like Ray-Ban's popular Meta AI Smart Glasses. While those have been the most popular option, that may be set to change with Xiaomi releasing its own smart sunglasses today.
Joining devices like the Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro and Redmi K80 Extreme Edition on stage earlier today, Xiaomi's new AI Glasses offer most of the features one would expect from smart glasses. Like the competition, Xiaomi's AI Glasses come equipped with a camera—in this case, the 12 MP IMX681 with a 105° FoV and support for up to 10 mins of 2K 30 FPS recording, third-party app video calls, and even live broadcasts.
Xiaomi's AI Glasses go heavy on the AI side too, with the company's Super XiaoAI delivering features including live translation and QR code payments. Weighing in at just 40g, the AI Glasses also serve as open-ear headphones and feature stereo speakers as well as five microphones. They're powered by Qualcomm AR1 processor and a Hengxuan 2700 co-processor.
Battery life looks to be a key selling point of the Xiaomi AI Glasses, with a claimed 8.6 hours of battery life, thanks to a 263 mAh battery chargeable via a Type-C port. Comparatively, Ray-Ban's Meta AI Glasses are rated to deliver just four hours of battery life.
The new Xiaomi AI Glasses are available in three SKUs: a standard model costing CNY 1,999 ($280), a monochrome electrochromic one at CNY 2,699 ($375), and a colored electrochromic variant priced at CNY 2,999 ($420). Xiaomi claims the electrochromic models will be able to change colors in just 0.2 seconds. Three frame colorways are available as well: Classic Black, Parrot Green, and Translucent Tortoiseshell Brown.
