After announcing a handful of TWS earbuds, Nothing will launch its first over-the-ear headphones on July 1. Called the Nothing Headphone (1), the technical specifications of the pair of headphones have been leaked.
The design of the Nothing Headphone (1) is no longer a secret thanks to leaked renders, images from certification agencies, and real life photos; and in true Nothing fashion, the headphones deviate from the norm. However, on the inside, the Headphone (1) aren't particularly unique.
As reported by Android Headlines, the Nothing Headphone (1) will have 40mm dynamic drivers with nickel-coated diaphragms. The audio is tuned by KEF, a British audio company Nothing announced a partnership with a few months ago. The headphones will also have adaptive bass enhancement, spatial audio, and an 8-band custom EQ.
In addition to the above, the new pair of headphones will have active noise cancellation (ANC) which is adaptive up to 42db. They will also have a transparency mode for when you need to be aware of your surroundings.
Surprisingly, there's no mention of the number of microphones on the headphones. They also don't seem to have a noise cancelling processor like the Sony WH-1000XM6 (available on Amazon for $449.99). Nevertheless, the Nothing Headphone (1) will have support for spatial audio and wear detection, and support AAC, SBC, and LDAC codecs.
The Headphone (1) will have Bluetooth 5.3 and easily connect to Android and Windows devices thanks to having support for Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair. They will also be able to connect to two devices simultaneously. The leaked specs sheet also mentions a “low lag mode” which should come in handy when gaming. Owners will also be able to create a personal sound profile and find the headphones using Google Find My Device.
Thanks to a 1,040mAh battery capacity, the Nothing Headphone (1) will be capable of providing up to 80 hours of listening time on a single charge with ANC off and with AAC. While that is pretty impressive, it is still 20 hours lower than the battery life of the Marshal Monitor III ANC headphones.
The battery life of Nothing's headphones drops down to 35 hours with ANC turned on. However, with LDAC, the battery life with ANC off is 54 hours, and 30 hours with ANC on. When the battery is down, a quick 5-minute charge will provide up to 5 hours of playback (ANC off).
The Nothing Headphone (1) will work with the Nothing X app but those with a Nothing phone should be able to modify settings and change the EQ band using the controls built-in the phone's Settings app. The Headphone (1) will measure 173.85 x 78 x 189.25 mm and weigh 329 grams. There will also be a case that measures 230 x 220 x 52 mm and weighs 264 grams.
The Nothing Headphone (1) are expected to be available in three colors and should be sold in Europe, Asia, and North America.
