A new pair of Sony WF-1000X earbuds could be on their way to market this year after all. Initially, there were suggestions that Sony may introduce the WF-1000XM6 and WH-1000XM6 simultaneously (curr. $448 on Amazon). While that has not come to pass, Sony was spotted adding WF-1000XM6 references within its Sound Connect app with the model number YY2985.
Now, The Walkman Blog has discovered the same model number in a recent shipping manifest. Described as 'Bluetooth headphones without [a] frame', Sony will likely sell the WF-1000XM6 in more colours than the single black option mentioned below. Design changes from the current WF-1000XM5 remain unknown at this stage, though.
Likewise, it is still unclear when Sony will officially replace the WF-1000XM5 with the WF-1000XM6. However, the 'description of goods' suggests that the company is still testing its next pair of high-end wireless earbuds rather than making final preparations to release them. For context, equivalent WH-1000XM6 shipping manifests surfaced months before Sony began selling its latest pair of over-ear wireless headphones. Thus, we suspect the WF-1000XM6 will debut in late autumn or early winter 2025.
