The second-generation Bose QuietComfort Ultra supposedly offer the best noise cancellation of any Bose earbuds thus far. Their so-called "Quiet Mode" can dampen all ambient sounds, while Aware Mode amplifies sounds like conversations but still reduces other loud noises.
Meanwhile, the headphones' "CustomTune" feature analyzes the shape of the ear canal to individually adjust the sound, which can be further adjusted to personal preferences via an equalizer in the Bose app. Four microphones per earbud are intended to ensure decent voice quality during phone calls. The 2nd-gen QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds further support 360-degree spatial audio and can connect to multiple devices simultaneously thanks to Bluetooth Multipoint.
The earbuds support SBC, AAC, and Qualcomm aptX Adaptive, but Bose has not included high-end codecs like aptX Lossless. The earbuds have a continuous battery life of up to six hours, and the charging case holds enough power for three full recharges. What’s new is that said case can be charged wirelessly on a Qi-compatible charging pad. Moreover, music playback can be controlled via the touch-sensitive surface on the outside of the earbuds, and these touch gestures can be customized in the aforementioned Bose app.
