Samsung AI glasses to launch this year but lack a key feature

AI glasses have become the new trend and Samsung, slowly but surely, is working towards its own version. Following the partnership announcement with Google, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker last year, Samsung has now shared a few more details about the glasses. Reportedly, they will be missing a key feature that brands like Meta and Lenovo have incorporated into their offerings.
Speaking with CNBC, the Executive Vice President at Samsung’s mobile business, Jay Kim, shared some information about the upcoming AI glasses. They will feature a camera at eye level, a common feature of smart glasses, and will be connected to a smartphone for processing data received from the camera. What these glasses will lack is a built-in display.
Meta has a version of smart glasses that come with a display - Meta Ray-Ban Display. The Lenovo AI Glasses V1 that launched late last year have one too. Rokid Glasses are another example of lightweight AR glasses with a display. While Kim did not specifically state that the Samsung AI glasses will not feature a display, he said that Samsung has other products with displays, if a user needs one.
Lastly, the EVP shared that the company is planning for a launch this year. While no timeline or launch window was given, it seems like Samsung is on track and in line with Qualcomm. As for specifications, a research firm shared some details late in 2024 claiming a Qualcomm AR1 processor, Sony IMX681 12 MP camera, a 155 mAh battery, and 50 grams weight. The AI will be powered by Google’s Gemini. Notably, the rumored information came with a Q3 2025 release window but that clearly did not happen.
