Rumors suggest that Xiaomi has been working on new AI glasses. A report on the website 36kr.com from Chinese source Intelligent Emergence indicates that the brand has been developing the smart wearables in collaboration with Goertek, a company known for its acoustic components.
Intelligent Emergence cites an unidentified source, someone who is said to be "familiar with the matter", suggesting that Xiaomi is using the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses as its benchmark. For context, this device has a 12MP camera, open-ear speakers and five microphones. You can use the Meta AI glasses to capture photos and videos, ask questions, set reminders and scan QR codes. These glasses are currently available for $329 at Amazon.
The report on 36kr.com indicates that the new Xiaomi AI glasses could launch in Q2 2025, potentially during the Mi Fan Festival scheduled to take place in April. It also claims that Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, has said that the company expects to produce at least 300,000 units of these new AI glasses. Presumably, this is just the volume of the first shipment, and the initial launch will be limited to China. Xiaomi has yet to officially acknowledge that it is working on AI glasses. It is also unclear whether or when such a device could roll out to other markets.
