Slack is reportedly working on a new AI file summary feature that will analyze and summarize uploaded documents. The platform introduced Slack AI in February 2024 with features that summarized chat threads, contextual search and channel recaps, which can generate highlights on stuff you might have missed out on.
According to a report by Android Authority, Slack is now looking to expand that feature set with AI file summaries. The publication conducted an APK teardown to look under the hood of the recent Android version of Slack (24-10-50-0) and discovered references to the new feature in strings of code.
Two of these, <string name="ai_file_summary_too_large_content_error_message"> and <string name="ai_file_summary_too_large_content_error_message">, suggest that there will be limitations to the feature such as the document being password protected or the file size being too large. Another string, <string name="ai_file_summary_empty_content_error_message">, reveals that the feature might have a minimum word limit for documents it can summarize.
Users can also delete and remove AI summaries or give feedback on the quality, such as "information was inaccurate" or "included too much or too little detail." So far, Slack hasn't made any announcement on the feature.
